Succoth
At the moment, the Jewish Community is celebrating the festival of Succoth/Tabernacles. Tabernacles is one of the three foot festivals when we were commanded by G-d to go to the Temple in Jerusalem in ancient days. Nowadays, a pilgrimage to the Holy City is a bonus, but for the rest of us living outside of Israel, we build our own succah – a flimsy canopy, open at the sides and decorated by fruit and pictures. We are “required” to eat our meals in it and sleep in it. This year I know several people who have managed to meet this requirement because of the lovely weather. It reminds us of our link to nature and the fragility of life.
May you all be inscribed in the book of life.
